Crossroads Bank for Social Security • parapublic institution • the mission of the CBSS is to be the motor of e-government in the social sector, i.e. • to stimulate and to support the actors in the Belgian social sector to grant more effective and efficient services with a minimum of administrative formalities and costs for all the involved; • based on a common and concerted vision, the actors in the Belgian social sector benefit from the new technologies to improve and re-organize radically their mutual relationships and processes; • to promote the information security and the privacy protection by the actors in the Belgian social sector so that all the involved institutions and people can have justified confidence in the system; • to deliver integrated statistical information to the politicians and the researchers in order to support the social policy. => http://www.bcss.fgov.be/

Documentation in the past : user guide + annexes list of variables codebook description of the variable « (nomenclature of) the socioeconomic position » description of the general anonymous statistics summary of the data available in the data warehouse => this documentation was too limited and inadequate : need of a project to reform this documentation

Documentation project 2004 : submission of a project to Belgian Science Policy, in association with Federal Public Service Social Security Project for 4 years (2005-2009) Research teams : Steunpunt Werk en Sociale Economie, Centrum voor Sociologisch Onderzoek, Centre METICES thorough screening and documenting of the data warehouse : the sources, the structure, the variables, the history, … documentation available on the website of the CBSS first : Word-documents that can be downloaded later : consultable via a Content Management System (CMS)

Results first documentation project more exhaustive user guide profound description of the sources, the variables and their possible values (codes) documentation is better structured => Although important improvement has been made, this is not the endpoint. A lot of important aspects are not explained in the current documentation.
