  2. Session Abstract • Practitioners using Microsoft Visio as a room diagramming tool should bring your tips and tricks to share with your colleagues. The presenter will share a few tips and tricks he has learned over the last two years, but he wants to learn from you and your experiences as well. Please bring at least one tip to share with the group.

  3. Training Opportunities • Microsoft Office Online – Several 40 to 50 minute short courses on how to work with shapes and linking data to diagrams. • Microsoft Visio Toolbox – This site provides downloads, training, and other resources for Visio. http://visiotoolbox.com/en-US/default.aspx

  4. Quick Start Guides • CustomGuide– FREE Quick reference Guides for many Microsoft application including Visio 2007. www.customguide.com

  5. Network with Colleagues • University of Michigan • University of Toledo • University of Louisville • Others?

  6. E-Learning • Microsoft E-Learning – FREE for campuses who participate in the Microsoft License Agreement.

  7. Creating a Room Template • Measure the dimensions of the room • Basic Layout = empty room • Begin layout with the walls • Add doors and windows • Include non-movable features

  8. Things to consider… • What scale size? • How much detail? • Who will be using the drawings? • Accuracy – the smaller the room… the more important • Create a Key for symbols

  10. Protect Your Templates From Unintentional Changes Go to “Edit” and then “Select All” Go to “Format” and then select “Protection” Many choices here… I usually select… “Aspect ratio” & “From deletion” Selections can always be undone!

Creating and Working with Shapes • Under “Shapes” • Under “Search for Shapes” • Type items you are searching for (i.e. tables, chairs) • Select and drag Item onto the desktop • You can use guide lines to create straight rows • If you create a shape with multiple parts • (i.e. tables and chairs) lock the grouping & aspect
