Significant Safety Achievements- 5/13 • Draft “EETD New Hire Safety Orientation” training slides and supervisor checklist were completed. • EETD lab visitor safety orientation training slides were completed. A checklist for tour guides was also generated. • Disposal of old samples/chemicals from labs 70-163, 70-201, 70-275, and 70-249 has started. • The old flammable gas cylinders formerly in use behind B70 were disconnected and removed. • Approximately 100 containers were identified in the 70-163 hood. • An assessment of EETD lab area phone availability for use in emergencies was conducted. Results will be communicated. • EETD has achieved an all-time low of only 59 pending training assignments at the end of May. Efforts will continue!

Short Term Safety Outlook- 6/13 • Complete the “On the Job Training” self-assessment projectwith ESDR lab area PI’s. • Deploy the EETD “New Hire Orientation” training materials to new employees and their supervisors. • Complete the CATS items from the housekeeping self-assessment. • Continue the lab cleanup efforts. A number of samples, old chemicals, and glassware have been identified for disposal. • An EETD Safety Committee meeting will be held 6/6/13. • Implement a new electronic lab inspection form for easier monthly lab area inspection documentation. • Generate a “Lessons Learned” regarding the recent janitorial incident in 70-269. • Participate in the LBNL emergency preparedness fair.
