  4. About Meeting Maker • Vender is ON Technology Corp. • WWW.ON.COM (Cambridge, MA) • Servers: UNIX, NT, MacOS • Clients: Win, MacOS, OS/2, UNIX • Net: TCP/IP, AT, IPX, ... • Can synch with PalmPilot, Newton • Cost is per client; servers near free

  10. MM @ Yale - Issues • Fundamentally a LAN/small enterprise system -- doesn’t scale well for a university • Flat directory space • Lacks sys mgmt tools • Upgrades require all clients too • User data at risk in server failures • Security “casual” -- legal discovery?

  11. MM @ Yale - Bottom Line • Very popular with users • Product & support have been reliable • Labor of love for Mac sys pgmr … • Needs server upgrade: NT or UNIX • Needs Data Center mgmt rigor • Waiting patiently for Internet stds and compliant products that don’t underperform Meeting Maker
