Reapportionment • Process used to reallocate representation in Congress Steps • Census is taken • Changes are made to the number of representatives for each state (Reapportionment) • Each state that has a change redraws districts within the state to match the new number of representatives. (Redistricting)

  7. Gerrymandering • The political party controlling the state government redraws the congressional districts in their favor. • Packing: adding opposition votes to a district • Cracking: dividing opposition votes into separate districts to weaken the opponents voter base

  8. Senate Membership • Age 30 • US Citizen for 9 years • Legal resident of the state represented • Term of Office: 6 Years • Salary: About $175,000/year + Benefits

  9. Pay Raises • 27th Amendment: Congressional pay raises do not go into effect until after the next election
