First Grade Intervention and Learning Support - Mrs. Kurtz and Miss Bucci

Mrs. Kurtz is an intervention teacher who co-teaches with the first grade team at Earl. Miss Bucci is a learning support teacher for K-2 at Earl. They provide support and interventions to help students achieve their academic goals.

  3. Who is Mrs. Kurtz? • Mrs. Kurtz is an Intervention Teacher • Mrs. Kurtz co teaches with the First Grade Team at Earl and provides interventions to students. • Allows for another professional educator to be involved in the learning process and assisting student achievement

  4. Benefits • Two first grade homerooms each with their own homeroom teacher • InterventionTeacher available to push in to assist students with instruction, pull students for individual help or instruction, and team teach with the two homeroom teachers

  5. Who is Miss Bucci? • Miss Bucci is a Learning Support Teacher for K-2 at Earl. • Regular Education and Learning Support teachers working hand in hand • Two professionals instructing students together • More opportunities for small group and individualized instruction

  6. First Grade Curriculum • First grade demands are much different now • Common Core Standards • You will be amazed at what your first grader is learning and is able to do

  8. Curriculum Revisions • In progress – working toward our curriculum goals align to the PA common core in each grade level • Curriculum details are available on the district website by grade level

  9. I can…. • Standards written in student friendly language • Quarterly brochures are being updated for the end of quarter goals • Resource for parents to understand exactly what your child is learning and what the expectations are

Homework • Guided Reading Homework M-Thurs • Reread story from class, discussion • Parent Signature • Word Book –vocabulary sight words • List glued in to word book and an activity will be assigned by the teacher by numerical menu included inside front cover on Monday morning. Assignments will be checked Friday.

  11. Classwork • Students will have Independent work that they are responsible for completing. • Independent work will be collected daily and students will be held accountable for that week’s work. Any unfinished work will be sent home for weekend homework. • Students may occasionally be held accountable for additional classwork/homework during the week.

  12. Classroom Rules • We use language that is quiet, polite, and not harmful • We keep hands, feet, body, and objects to ourselves • We follow directions when given. • We care about others’ feelings. We treat others the way we want to be treated

  13. Behavior Incentive • Cards • Green, Orange, Yellow, Red, Blue • Students receive a stamp on their daily calendar for keeping a green card for the day • Brief explanations for card changes will be written on the calendar as well

  14. Report Card • Boyertown grades on a standards based goals • 4, 3, 2, 1, scale – • “3 is where you want to be” • Conferences after First Quarter; additional conferences available after successive quarters as needed

  15. Interventions • Title One • Speech Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Physical Therapy • Hearing Impairment Therapy • RtI (Response to Intervention)
