  3. What are we called to do for God? • What are the last words Jesus stated before He went to heaven?

  4. Matthew 28:18–20 (ESV) “…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  5. Peter’s Story • I will never leave you even to prison or death • Love is tested by opposition • Beware of overconfidence

  6. Jeremiah 17:9 (ESV) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

  7. Takes more than self determination to cope with the devil Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV)

  8. “I would never ….” 23 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:23–24 (ESV)

  9. Stay on your knees • Peter followed his overconfidence by sleeping when he should have been praying • When we think we can do it alone, we will not pray • Prayer is WORK • We need to get passionate about prayer

  10. 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

  11. Make sure you are acting in God’s Will • Peter struck with the sword • Having a fervent love for the Lord is one thing • Stay close to Jesus

  12. Love Requires Brokenness • Brokenness is being emptied of self, pride • We need to be emptied of ourselves so we can be filled with Jesus

  13. John 15:5 (ESV) I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

  14. WHAT DO WE DO WITH THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN INTO SIN AND TURNED THEIR BACK ON CHRIST?

  15. Love is possible because of Grace • Jesus Comes looking for us • Jesus Provides for Us • Jesus Reaches down to us • Jesus Restores us.

  16. II. The Great Commission • Great Concern • How will our friends and neighbors know about Jesus Christ and eternal life?

  17. Confusing Perspectives • Special Christians, or “real disciples?” • The great commission describes a call to missions • The great commission is a call to evangelism • The great commission calls us to discipleship training

  19. III. Lifetime strategy • SYSTEMATIC plan for discipling • Some of the ministries we have are working • Part of that plan is next Sunday

  20. Concerned about the Lost • Who are you asking Jesus Christ to save? • Who is on your list? • Are you really reaching out? • Are people drawn close to Jesus because of your life?

  21. Great concern • Have we become fishless fishermen?

  22. ?? FISHLESS FISHERMEN Go (as you are going) Make disciples Baptizing them (Identification) Teaching them to observe (Put into life)
