  1. Lighting and Exposure Light is brighter by the dark Featuring Kevin Valencia

  2. Exposure = intensity x time Intensity of the light passing through the lens Time of exposure to that light of the image capturing device (film or chip)

  3. Shutter speed = exposure time The longer the time of exposure, the better. Increasing shutter speed may cause strobing. Speeds shorter than 1/60 under florescent light might cause flickering.

  4. Exposing Your Subjects Two ways to measure exposure: Amount of light falling on object or Amount of light reflected by object

  5. Exposing Your Subjects Amount of light reflected is what is recorded on the film or video image. Exposure is recorded/measured in a range from black to white.

  6. Overexposure: When too much light is reflected, causing black to look grey

  7. Underexposure: When not enough light is reflected causing the image to be dark and muddy
