  2. David “You acted foolishly and have not kept the command the Lord your God gave you … now your kingdom will not endure; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the Lord’s command.” 1 Sam 13:13-14 (NIV)

  3. David Psalm 51 is a record of David’s confession to God “Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.” Psalm 51:13 (NIV) Psalm 32 is a reflection of David’s experience after his confession

  4. David speaks to assembly 1How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,Whose sin is covered! 2 How blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,And in whose spirit there is no deceit!

David speaks to God 3 When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted awaythrough my groaning all day long.4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. 5 I acknowledged my sin to You,And my iniquity I did not hide;I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin.

  6. David speaks to God 6 Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found;Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.7 You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;You surround me with songs of deliverance.

Priest speaks to David 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.9 Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, otherwisethey will not come near to you.10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.

Wrongdoing • Transgression: passing over a boundary line • “You shall not murder.” (Ex 20:13) • “You shall not commit adultery.” (Ex 20:14) “If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife – with the wife of his neighbor – both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.” Lev 20:10 (NIV)

  11. Wrongdoing • Sin: to miss the mark “Everyone has sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious standard.” Rom 3:23 (NCV) “Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.” Jas 4:17 (NASB)

  12. Wrongdoing • Iniquity: turn from the straight or right way So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.” 2 Sam 12:13 (NKJV)

Confession • Hebrew:to make known (yada) • Greek: to speak the same as (homologeo) “He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will find compassion.” Pr28:13 (NASB) “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 Jn 1:9 (NASB)
