  1. Arthritis By :The Bulldogs

  2. The Problem • We picked the common disease arthritis because of its large affection of seniors and the severity of the problem. • Every member on our team has a family member who has been affected by arthritis

  3. Arthritis: An Overview • The Center of Disease Control in the United States has reported that arthritic conditions are the leading reason behind disability. • In 2003, arthritis cost the United States $127.8 billion ($80.8 billion in medical care expenditures and $47.0 billion in lost earnings). The total national costs were 1.2% of the Gross Domestic Product, which is equal to a chronic, small recession.

  4. Arthritis: An Overview Continued • Every year in the United States, 9,500 people die as a result of arthritis. In addition, 750,000 people are expected to be hospitalized per year, and 8 million people will suffer some physical limitations due to the disease.

  5. The Plan • We planned a step by step plan to help slow the progress and stop people from contracting arthritis.

  6. The Types • There are multiple types of arthritis. • The most common case is Rheumatoid arthritis.

  7. Rheumatoid Arthritis • Rheumatoid arthritis is the inflammation of joints. It leads to long term joint damage, and disabilities. • If you have this type of arthritis and it is not treated, you could be permanently hospitalized.

  8. Existing Solutions • The “my pain bye bye ™” • Zostrix Arthritis Cream • Bengay Arthritis Cream • Aspercreme • Icy hot • These solutions are all creams that are rubbed onto the skin. They average 400 dollars a month.

  9. Consultants • Since one of our members, Collin, has a dad that works at CDC, we were able to interview a doctor who researched arthritis. Her name was Dr. Kristina Theis.

  10. Solution • Our solution to soothe arthritis is a 5 step improvement plan. • Step 1: Physical Exercise • Step 2: Recovery • Step 3: Bath • Step 4: Acupuncture/Meditation • Step 5: Eat Healthy

  11. Step 1: Physical Exercise • Our first step is physical exercise. We have researched that isometric exercise has improved the joints muscles with little energy required. • The stress the exercise puts on the joint help the swelling get weaker.

  12. Step 2 Stretching • One of the things we did was we came up with a design for a rubber band that can help with stretching the muscles. We examined dimensions and brought a detailed blueprint of our design.

  13. Step 4 Meditation/Massages • Meditation calms the body and relieves pain by releasing chemicals in the body such as dopamine. • Our group also researched acupunctures, an alternate way of relieving pain using small needles inserted to the inflamed area. • This provide direct heating to the point of swelling.

  14. Step 5 Healthy Eating • One of the main causes of arthritis is unhealthy eating. • Eating raw meat can build up dangerous chemicals such as mercury which can lead to autoimmune deficiency.

  15. Conclusion • In conclusion, our step by step treatment will cost around 470 dollars a year. • In comparison however, it costs tens of thousands of dollars for a yearly supply of arthritis medication. • The implementation of our plan is easy: all you need is a gym and a couple healthy eating choices.
