  • COEs:
    • improve recruitment/performance
    • facilitate research on minority health issues
    • train students/faculty to provide healthcare to minority individuals.

Affordable Care Act (ACA)-reauthorized $50 million FY 2010-2015

  • 2005: 34 COEs Today: 20 COEs
  • FY 2005 - $33.6 million
  • FY 2006 - 64.7% cut to $11.9 million
  • FY 2008 - $12.773 million
  • FY 2010 Omnibus -$24.6 million, $4 million increase over FY 2009.

  • HCOPS:
    • Funding to encourage minority, economically/academically disadvantaged students to pursue health professions.
  • Reauthorized ACA - $51 million FY 2011-2014
  • 2005:74 HCOPs Today: 35 HCOPs
  • FY 2005 - $35.6 million
  • FY 2006 - $4 million
  • FY 2008 -$9.825 million
  • FY 2010 Omnibus - $22.1 million, an increase of $3 million over FY 2009.
