  2. Personnel Center Mission …to increase the nation’s capacity to recruit, prepare and retain highly qualified, diverse personnel to serve infants, children and youth with disabilities, birth to 21, and their families.

  3. Services Provided by the Personnel Center • Toll-free call center • Interactive website • Online searchable database of preparation programs nationwide • Technical assistance to up to five states each year

  4. Website and Call Center • Information on careers, certification (including alternative paths) and financial aide opportunities • Resources, research, reports and materials on supply and demand, highly qualified and recruitment and retention initiatives

Challenges Specific to Early Intervention Personnel Development • Lack of state certification for the early intervention “teacher” • Lack of a personnel database of persons who work in EI • Lack of personnel preparation programs that are geared for birth to three service delivery • Difficulty in hiring related service personnel to work in EI programs

Strategies to Address EI Personnel Needs in States • More communication and collaboration between the lead agency for EI and the agencies that hire and place EI personnel • Consistent adherence to the established regulations for qualified personnel in EI • Development of a personnel database that includes the qualifications of EI personnel and their placement • Ability to assess and project current and future personnel needs in EI
