  1. Teacher slide • I am using the A side of the handouts as classwork and the B side as HW… • Slides 13 and 14 can be used as enrichment. I will be giving them graph paper for theses problems.

  2. Geometric Transformations

  3. Match the transformation the expression • Vertical translation • Horizontal translation • Reflection • Vertical Stretch/ Compression • Horizontal Stretch/Compression

  4. Just as we could use transformations to transform parent functions of basic algebraic functions, we can also transform geometric figures in a plane. How could you “transform” ABCD onto FEDG?

  5. Figures in a plane can be reflected, rotated or translated to produce new figures. The new figure is called the image. The original figure is called the preimage. The operation that maps, or moves, the preimage onto the image is called a transformation.

  6. We will learn about three basic transformation… Reflections (flips) Rotations (turns) Translations (slides)

  7. Some transformations involve labels. When you name the image, take the corresponding point of the preimage and add a prime symbol.

  8. Use the graph to the right to answer the following questions. Name and describe the transformations. Name the coordinates of the vertices of the image. Is congruent to its image?

  9. Isometry A transformation that preserves… • Lengths • Angle measures • Parallel lines • Distance between points • Transformations that are isometries are called rigid transformtions.

  10. Does the transformation appear to be an isometry?

  11. You can describe transformations using mappings. What would be the “corresponding “ parts?

  12. What do you think will happen?

  13. Sketch the image of the given triangle after the given transformation. Based on your graph , identify the transformation. A ( ) B ( ) C ( )

  14. Time to practice • Complete Handout 7.1 A • Assignment: 7.1 B
