  2. Vocabulary Review • Anemometer • Beaufort scale • Energy • Engineer • Engineering Design Process • Fisk • Mechanical engineering • Technology • Vejr • Wind • Windmill • Wind turbine

  3. Anemometer: An instrument used to measure the speed of the wind.

  4. Beaufort scale: a rating scale used to measure wind speed through observations.

  5. Energy: The ability to do work.

  6. Engineer: A person who uses his or her creativity and understanding of mathematics and science to design things that solve problems.

  7. Engineering design process: Te steps that engineers use to design something to solve a problem.

  8. Fisk: Danish word for fish.

  9. Mechanical engineering: The branch of engineering that deals with the design and performance of machines.

  10. Technology: Any thing, system, or process that deals with the design and performance of machines.

  11. Vejr: Danish word for weather. Pronounced vair.

  12. Wind: Air that is moving and has energy.

  13. Windmill: A machine that harnesses the energy of the wind to do useful work.

  14. Wind turbine: A kind of windmill that changes the energy of air (wind) into electrical energy (electricity).

  15. Finish story • Review first three chapters 1. Why does Leif feel better when he watches his pet fish? 2. Why was it important for Leif to keep a weather notebook? 3. Why are the fish in Dana’s pond pumping their gills hard? 4. What did the author mean when she wrote about Leif watching his kite “swim”?
