  4. ProfessionalSkills • Please read through the 8 professional skills. They are the basis for the rest of the criteria of the CPI. Problems in these areas usually cause problems with the other criteria.

Criteria 9 - 14 • Criterion 9 Clinical Problem Solving and Judgments Is this student able to do problem solving and make sound judgments in the clinic? • Criterion 10 Data Collection – Appendix B • Referring to Appendix B, can the student perform accurate and timely data collection? • Criterion 11 Plan of Care • Does the student communicate with the PT and recommend changes in the POC at the appropriate times with a patient? • Can the student progress the patient appropriately? • Criterion 12 Patient Interventions – Appendix C • Referring to Appendix C, can the student perform technically competent skills? • Criterion 13 Education • Can the student effectively educate patients, families, staff and other health care providers? • Criterion 14 Quality of Care Delivery • Does the student participate in performance improvement activities and follow standards already established in the facility?

Criteria 15 - 20 • Criterion 15 Patient Services • Can the student participate in addressing patient need for services? • Criterion 16 Resources Management • Can the student manage clinic space and equipment and does he/she have time management skills? • Criterion 17 Fiscal Management • Is the student aware of reimbursement guidelines and is he/she about to submit accurate charges in a timely manner? • Criterion 18 Support Personnel • Can the student utilize and interact appropriately with therapy aides and other support personnel in accordance with legal and ethical standards? • Criterion 19 Career Development and Lifelong Learning • Is the student involved in lifelong learning activities and able to establish goals for career development? • Criterion 20 Wellness and Health Promotion • Is the student actively involved in preventative education for patients and lay groups/individuals under the direction of a PT?

  9. The Visual Analog Scale

  10. The Visual Analog Scale (VAS) • Rate the student using the visual analog scale on each criterion. The beginning of the VAS is the novice clinical performance. 25% marks the advanced beginner performance. 50% marks the intermediate performance. 75% marks advanced intermediate performance. 100% marks entry level performance. Entry level performance is the PTA student providing quality care with simple or complex patients in a variety of clinical environments under the supervision of a physical therapist. Also there is a place before the VAS to mark Not Observed and after the VAS to mark With Distinction
