  1. What are jdm cars? JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market cars. What does that mean? Well, we'll try and break it down for you in a way that makes sense. Let's use the Subaru Impreza WRX as an example: Since 2004, Subaru has been selling different variants of this model throughout the world -- some with varying body styles, some with varying plants of power, and some with both. Previously, the Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars were engineering prototypes for global markets to sell these models throughout the world -- but what about now? There are model WRX STIs that only come equipped with a 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-four engine with 265 horsepower. There are also WRX STIs that come with the 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine with 305 horsepower, which you get in the US and Canada. These engines are fundamentally different machines making less power than their American counterparts because of strict emissions standards in Japan -- but why would Subaru bother selling them domestically at all? This is because the Japanese Domestic Market cars are still unique and different from their global counterparts. You'll notice additional features like rear-seat vents or air conditioning in these cars that aren't available on other versions of the WRX STI, so if you want to have best-of-the-best equipment, these JDM cars are where it's at. Moving up the food chain, different Japanese automakers have been selling cars here in America since the 90s, but only a few of them are JDM imports -- for example, Acura Integra or Honda Preludes. In fact, any car that was imported to America from Japan prior to the year 2000 is still considered a JDM car. The reason these cars aren't imported anymore is because of the strict emissions standards in Japan. If you wanted to, for example, bring a USDM Acura Integra RS to Japan, it would require an additional three months' worth of extra paperwork and testing before it could be sold on Japanese roads -- long story short, there are very few JDM cars left in the US. However, there is one very specific exception to this: The Nissan Skyline. While most automakers selling USDM Acura Integras and Honda Preludes were satisfied with selling these rare models for two or three years at a time before ceasing sales, the late

  2. 2000s and 2010s saw an influx of JDM cars entering the American market. This is due to the fact that there is a very specific vehicle that's considered a unicorn in both Japan. Since the car was released in 1989, it has been imported into America for short periods of time under many different names , but it wasn't until 2014 when the car was officially sold hereunder its proper name -- the Nissan GT-R. While this was a very specific example of a JDM car, there are plenty more cars that will continue to show up on our shores with time. For now, you'll probably see another trickle of JDM cars coming to America in the next few years. The next time you see a car from Japan, whether it be a Nissan Skyline or an Acura Integra, think to yourself: "Is this car JDM?" And if so, how cool is that? Best JDM Cars: Nissan Skyline GT-R: Th "Godzilla" of Japanese sports cars, this car is very special because it's the only JDM car that you can easily buy right now. Honda Prelude Type SH: One of Honda's first luxury coupes, this is one of the best-looking JDM cars ever. Honda Integra Type R: The JDM Integra is arguably the most sought-after USDM car in America right now. Nissan Silvia S15: The third-generation Silvia is one of the best-looking JDM cars ever. Toyota Mark II Tourer V: Other than the 240SX, this is arguably the most sought-after USDM car in America right now. Acura NSX: Even though it's a Honda, it's still considered a JDM car. Nissan 180SX: This is the JDM version of the 240SX and arguably one of the best-looking USDM cars in America right now.

  3. Honda NSX: It's not a 240SX, but it's still considered a JDM car. Nissan Skyline R34: This is the newest generation of the Japanese sports car, so it's still pretty rare to find in America. Honda Integra Type R DC2/EK9: One of Honda's best-looking JDM cars ever. Toyota Soarer 2.5GT-T VVT-I Twin Turbo: According to Top Gear, this is the best JDM car ever made. Nissan Cefiro A31: The third-generation Nissan Skyline is considered one of the best-looking JDM cars ever. Nissan Silvia S15 Spec R Aero: This is a limited edition version of the 240SX, so not only is it special because of its rarity, but also because it's one of the best-looking JDM cars ever. Best JDM Engine: The Nissan Z32 twin-turbo V6 is one of the best Japanese engines ever made, and Nissan just so happens to import it into America in the 90s. Its size and horsepower make it a perfect engine for aftermarket turbochargers, which means that these Z32 engines are definitely going to be popping up in the next few years. Best JDM Import Car: Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 This is an obvious one, but it's worth mentioning because it's arguably the best JDM car ever made. Korean Cars: Despite being manufactured by American automakers, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe has become a popular choice for JDM cars. It's becoming so popular that there are already countless companies that offer custom parts to give the Genesis Coupe more horsepower than it originally came with.
