  1. Review Assignment • Answer each of these questions with a paragraph that is at least 8 sentences long. • You are to work alone and not talk to each other. • Each questions should take you no more or less than 15 minutes to answer. You may use your book or a class book to help you find the answers to the questions. • This entire assignment is due before you leave class today. If you aren’t finished with the entire assignment, turn in what you have finished into the wire basket.

  2. Compare and contrast the New England and middle colonies in terms of motives for founding, religious and social composition, and political development. • How did the Puritans’ religious outlook affect the development of all the New England colonies? • What efforts were made to strengthen English control over the colonies in the seventeenth century, and why did they generally fail? • What were the causes and consequences of the Great Awakening? • How did the American colonies move from loyalty to protest to rebellion in the twelve years following the end of the French and Indian War? • What was the theory and practice of mercantilism? What were its actual effects on the colonies, and why did they resent it so much? • Given the history of the colonies’ founding and British “benign (salutary) neglect” during much of the time from then until the period just before the Revolution, was the American Revolution inevitable?
