  2. Why do you want to buy your own vehicle? • To have more independence? • Saves time getting from place to place? • Makes you feel more mature? • Explain YOUR reasons for wanting to buy a vehicle.

  3. Choosing a vehicle • What kind of vehicle would fit my lifestyle and needs? • Can I afford this type of vehicle, and all of the costs that come with it (insurance, registration, maintenance, gasoline)? • How many passengers will I usually have?

  4. Choosing a vehicle cont… • Will I be able to take on the responsibility of owning my own vehicle? • How far will I need to drive on a daily basis? • How long will I expect to keep the vehicle? • Explain what vehicle YOU plan on purchasing and why.

Choosing a vehicle that is safe • Does the vehicle have airbags? • In head-on collisions, most fatalities occur when the driver hits the steering wheel and suffers head or chest injuries. • Antilock Brake System (ABS)? • Advantage: they let you steer around an obstacle even if you panic and slam on the brakes.

Choosing a vehicle that is safe • How does the vehicle hold up in a crash test? • What is the size of the vehicle? • The larger the vehicle, the more it protects you. • Is the vehicle comfortable for you? • After all, you will be the one driving it. • Did you select a vehicle that is safe?   7. Choosing a fuel-efficient vehicle • Consider the weight of the vehicle • The less weight an engine pulls, the more efficiently it works, which saves fuel. • Type of Engine - The more cylinders the engine, the more fuel it uses.

How Much Should You Spend? • How much should you pay for this vehicle? -Invoice (Cost to the dealer) - Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) - True Market Value (TMV) • How will you purchase this vehicle? - Buy - Lease - Finance • State the price, and how you will go about paying for it.
