Key Responsibilities of Response Coordination Branch (RCB) • Advising the field in: • Strengthening coordination mechanisms • Ensuring effective delivery of humanitarian assistance • Disaster response preparedness • Development of Common Humanitarian Action Plan (CHAP) • Advising the Emergency Relief Coordinator (ERC) in response to new disasters/emergencies

Summary • OCHA is an office in the UN Secretariat • ~1000 staff in New York and Geneva and 30+ field offices • Three main functions • Coordinate international humanitarian response • Policy development • Advocacy on humanitarian issues • ESB provides tools and mechanisms for disaster and emergency response • 24/7 days a week readiness system
