Lesson 9.2 Translations

Lesson 9.2 Translations. State Standard: G.2.4 Apply transformations (slides, flips, turns, expansions, and contractions) to polygons in order to determine congruence, similarity, and tessellations. Know that images are formed by slides, flips and turns are congruent to the original shape.

  1. Lesson 9.2Translations State Standard: G.2.4 Apply transformations (slides, flips, turns, expansions, and contractions) to polygons in order to determine congruence, similarity, and tessellations. Know that images are formed by slides, flips and turns are congruent to the original shape.

  2. A translation is a transformation that moves all points of a figure the same distance in the same direction. The figure does not change it’s shape, just it’s location. Translations

  3. An example ABCD has been translated 5 units to the left and 3 units down. This can be written as (x,y) (x-5, y-3). D(1,2) D’(1-5, 2-3) or D’(-4, -1) E(3,1) E’(3-5, 1-3) or E’(-2, -2) F(4,-1) F’(4-5, -1-3) or F’(-1, -4) G(2,0) G’(2-5, 0-3) or G’(-3, -3)

  4. Let’s try another one • ABCD has been translated 4 units to the right and 6 units down. This can be written as (x,y) • (x+4, y-6) • GREAT! • Now, let’s finish the problem.

  5. Find the translation if… A(-2, 2) B(-2, -2) C(4, -1) D(4, 3) A’(-2 +4, 2-6) A’(2, -4) B’(-2+4, -2-6) B’(2, -8) C’(4+4, -1-6) C’(8, -7) D’(4+4, 3-6) D’(8, -3) (x+4, y-6)
