  1. Weekly World Watch Andy Walton’s May 6 - 12, 2018 “If the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood.” (Ezekiel 33:6, New International Version) PRESS SPACE BAR TO CONTINUE To skip the introductory slides and go straight to this weeks developments click here.

  2. What is a Weekly World Watch? The idea is simple. It is to look at current events and compare them to events spoken of in the Bible. . I hope to build up a picture of God’s hand working in the affairs of this world. God is bringing about a day when all nations will be gathered to Jerusalem to battle. At that time God will send His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, back to this earth. Jesus will then establish God’s kingdom on earth. This kingdom will last for ever. This is our hope and the reason we watch. The following six themes will appear repeatedly in WWW: • Israel: The continuing conflict in the Middle East and focus on Jerusalem. • Europe: Its developing union, both political and religious. • Russia: Its return to anti-Western ways as Bible prophecy’s “king of the north.” • The UK and the US: Bible prophecy’s “king of the south.” • Moral standards in decline and violence on the increase. • Increasing natural disasters: including earthquake, famine etc WWW presentations in PowerPoint can be ordered as audio/visual CDs by clicking here. Move your mouse to place the cursor on the blue link and click.

  3. BIBLE QUOTE What is in a Weekly World Watch? Each WWW looks at a few key developments that have happened during the past week. It is in no way meant to be exhaustive – just a look at those events I saw as significant from a Biblical point of view. Every WWW event slide has the following format. To reveal each block of text just left click your mouse or press the space bar. You control when it appears. News Photo This is straight from a news report that caught my eye because it looked significant from a Biblical perspective, usually that of prophecy. HEADLINE The source of the headline and the date are included. This is the reporter’s description of the event. It is always a direct quotation from the news report and reflects the understanding of the reporter and editors. EVENT This is my comment on why the event is interesting to a Bible student. The intention of the WWW is to offer brief Biblical perspectives without going into detail. If more detail is desired, please e-mail me: (andy@weeklyworldwatch.co.uk). Please note that these are personal thoughts and the aim is purely to stimulate Bible study. COMMENT This is normally one verse which backs up why the event that has occurred is interesting from a Biblical perspective. Please read in its context. Unless stated otherwise, all quotes are from the King James Version.(Book, chapter, and verse)

  4. 5. The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. The cities of Aroer are forsaken: they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid. The fortress also shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria: Ephraim = northern area of Israel Israel strikes dozens of Iranian targets in Syria Jerusalem Post, May 10, 2018 Israel struck 50 Iranian targets in Syria after 20 rockets were fired towards Israel’s front defensive line in the Golan Heights by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp’s Quds Force early Thursday morning, the IDF announced. The targets all belonged to the Quds Force and included intelligence sites, logistics headquarters, a military compound and logistics complex in Kiswah near Damascus; weapons-storage sites at Damascus International Airport; and intelligence systems and installations, as well as observation, military posts and military hardware in the buffer zone. According to IDF Spokesman Brig.-Gen. Ronen Manelis the Israeli retaliation was “one of the greatest operations of the Israel Air Force in the past decade,” adding that Russia was informed ahead of the strikes. The 28 F-16 and F-15 jets participating in the operation were met with heavy anti-aircraft fire from the Syrian regime; in return, five Syrian air-defense batteries were destroyed by Israel. EVENT COMMENT On Wednesday Israel conducted its largest military operation since 1974. 28 Israeli warplanes took part in the raids and around 70 missiles were fired. All of them were aimed at Iranian sites in Syria. In fact every known Iranian base was attacked. These attacks followed Trump’s announcement he was pulling the US out of the Iran nuclear deal. We are surely now on the very brink of Psalm 83, Isaiah 17 and Zechariah 12 being fulfilled. As we have been reporting for many years – Israel will be sucked into the Syrian conflict and will endure a severe attack in the north. At this time Damascus will be entirely destroyed. All this is spoken of in Isaiah 17. It is the initial inner ring war that comes before Russia invades. Events this week are just the beginning… BIBLE QUOTE (Isaiah 17:1-3)

  6. I will make Jerusalem like an intoxicating drink that makes the nearby nations stagger when they send their armies to besiege Jerusalem and Judah The NEARBY nations are intoxicated by what happens with Jerusalem. Then we read that All the nations will gather against it to try to move it. Inner ring war then outer ring.war. Iran will quit nuclear deal and ramp up military tension Debkafile, May 11, 2018 Tehran will challenge the US by restarting nuclear fuel enrichment and ramp up its military confrontation with Israel. The Iranian leadership reached these decisions on Thursday, May 10, after Israeli warplanes smashed its military assets in the Damascus area that morning, DEBKAfile’s exclusive intelligence sources report. These steps follow the strategic plans Tehran had drawn up for the eventuality of the US quitting the 2015 nuclear pact. In the coming weeks, therefore, Tehran will choose its moment to abandon the nuclear deal and restart high level uranium enrichment, in the face of President Donald Trump’s warning that this action would meet with “very severe consequences.” When Rouhani said Thursday that Iran does not want “new tensions” in the region, he was playing for time for Iran to get its next moves – resumption of enrichment and armed confrontation – in place. EVENT This week Donald Trump enraged all other world leaders (apart from in Israel) by pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal. Hours later we saw Israel attack all the Iranian sites in Syria. The question is - how will Iran respond to this provocation? The answer is spelt out clearly in the Debkafile analysis above. Iran has no intention whatsoever of making peace with either the US or Israel. It will begin to enrich uranium again AND stir up armed confrontation with Israel using its proxy armies of Hezbollah and Hamas. Israel hopes that by hitting Iran hard this week has drawn a line under the conflict. It hasn’t. The Bible says that the nearby peoples will be intoxicated by Jerusalem and seek to destroy Israel. But this initial inner ring war will fail. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE (Zechariah 12:2-3)

  7. Israel v Iran: Are they heading for a war? BBC, May 10, 2018 These are the first skirmishes in a potential war between Israel and Iran that promises a fearful level of destruction - even by the standards of the modern Middle East. It could spread across Syria and Lebanon. Israeli cities would be hit, as might strategic targets in Iran. In its initial stages, it would be Israeli air power against the long-range missile forces of Iran and its Lebanese ally Hezbollah. It is a conflict that needs to be averted and the time to do it is now. However Israel and Iran remain on a collision course. Israel has long been wary of Iran's growing influence in the region. A low-level struggle has been under way for years in which the Israelis have sought to prevent sophisticated Iranian weaponry, such as long-range and anti-shipping missiles, being passed by Iran to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Convoys have been intercepted and weapons stores bombed. But the war in Syria has greatly increased the proximity of Iranian-backed forces to Israel's borders. EVENT COMMENT Notice how we read that the conflict between Israel and Iran would spread across Syria and Lebanon. We are not going to see Israel fighting Iran in Iran. We are going to see Israel fighting a war on her own borders – with Syria, Lebanon, Gaza and Jordan. Psalm 83 gives a detailed picture of what is about to happen. It explains the thinking of the tribes that surround Israel. They want to destroy the nation. The tribes listed include “inhabitants of Tyre” – this refers to Hezbollah whose base is in Tyre in Lebanon. The Philistines are mentioned – this refers to Palestinians. Assur we are told helps these tribes. Assur is the only nation mentioned. Assur at the time of Psalm 83 being written covered Syria. It may also refer to Iran. With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you— the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, of Moab and the Hagrites, Byblos, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia, with the people of Tyre. Even Assyria [Syria / Iran] has joined them to reinforce Lot’s descendants. BIBLE QUOTE (Psalm 83:5-8 NIV)

  8. Putin shows off his best weapons to Netanyahu Newsweek, May 9, 2018 EVENT Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu observed a military parade marking the defeat of Nazi Germany alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday. Although Putin and Netanyahu are at odds over the former's backing of Iran and his pro-regime stance in the Syrian civil war, the Israeli leader said relations between Moscow and Israel remained strong. "The meetings between us are always important, and this one is especially so," Netanyahu said in a video message reported by The Jerusalem Post. "In light of what is currently happening in Syria, it is necessary to ensure the continued coordination between the Russian military and the IDF," he said, referring to the Israeli Defense Forces. But despite Netanyahu's statement, relations between Russia and Israel over Syria are complex. Moscow has backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since 2015, while Israel has carried out attacks against Syrian government targets. Assad is also supported by Israel's archenemy, Iran, and Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group that fought a war with the Israelis as recently as 2006. It may seem strange to see Israel’s leader stood next to Russia’s leader watching a military parade. Isn’t Putin supposed to one day order an invasion of Israel?? Why would Putin invite Netanyahu as his special guest to show off his best military weapons? This Kremlin tactic isn't new. Often Russian leaders invite guests of honour to view a stunning Russian display of strength before taking them aside for a talking-to about what is expected of them. Putin wants Netanyahu to be so impressed by Russia’s might that he might think twice about launching attacks in Syria. There maybe smiles now – but it will end in tears. Putin will use these weapons against Israel. COMMENT BIBLE QUOTE This is what the Sovereign Lord says: At that time evil thoughts will come to your mind, and you will devise a wicked scheme. You will say, ‘Israel is an unprotected land filled with unwalled villages! I will march against her and destroy these people who live in such confidence! These words are addressed to Gog - the Russian leader - Putin (Ezekile 38:10-11)

  9. Hezbollah scores major gains in Lebanon election BBC, May 5, 2018 EVENT The leader of Lebanon’s Iranian-backed Hezbollah group declared “mission accomplished” Monday after scoring major gains in parliamentary elections, as the main Western-backed faction headed by Prime Minister Saad Hariri lost a third of its seats. The results of Sunday’s election further bolster Iran’s allies in Lebanon and neighboring Syria at a time when Tehran faces growing Israeli threats and the prospect of the United States pulling out of a landmark nuclear deal negotiated with world powers. They also underline the growing clout of the group in Lebanon where it dominates politically and militarily. Hezbollah and its political allies gained at least 43 seats, giving another boost to Iran’s allies in Lebanon and Syria, where Tehran’s influence has grown in recent years as it has provided crucial support to President Bashar Assad. COMMENT These were the first elections in Lebanon for 9 years. Hezbollah who are a terrorist organisation are also a political party in Lebanon. They won more seats and are now the largest party with 56 out of 128. Hezbollah are backed by Iran and this is another sign of Tehran’s widening regional clout and the growing risk of a direct clash with Israel. “In any war with Israel, Hezbollah now is sure it controls state institutions, whether it is the government or the parliament,” said Sami Nader, head of the Levant Institute for Strategic Studies. “Not a single law can pass without its vetting.” This vote therefore increases Hezbollah and Iranian confidence. It makes war more likely not less. It is another step towards Psalm 83 being fulfilled in the last days. Gebal and Ammon and Amalek, the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre..  The inhabitants of Tyre are Hezbollah. Pslam 83 is about the last days as it concludes with these words…Let them be ashamed and terrified forever. Let them die in disgrace. Then they will learn that you alone are called the Lord, that you alone are the Most High, supreme over all the earth. BIBLE QUOTE (Psalm 83:17-18)

  10. Jerusalem: US has ‘no position’ on Israeli border Jewish Press, April 27, 2018 EVENT US President Donald Trump's decision to move the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is not a judgment on the final status of the city and its "contested borders," the State Department said in a statement on Friday. The US statement comes ahead of a dedication ceremony at the new embassy on Monday, timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel's independence. Palestinians will mark "Nakba Day" shortly thereafter and plan on protesting the US move. "Moving our embassy is not a departure from our strong commitment to facilitate a lasting peace deal," the State Department note said. "Rather, it is a necessary condition for it. We are not taking a position on final status issues, including the specific boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem, nor on the resolution of contested borders." COMMENT We approach a very significant milestone next week as it is the 70th anniversary since Israel was recreated as a nation on earth. Israel ceased to exist in AD70. But on the 14th May 1948 Israel was reborn – exactly as God said would happen. Literally a new nation, language and currency was born overnight. But what comes next? The answer is - WAR. On Tuesday the US will open its embassy in Jerusalem – the first nation on earth to do so. We will also see Hamas try to break through the Gaza border. Iran we know will seek revenge for the attacks this week. Hezbollah is poised with over 100,000 rockets and missiles. Zechariah 12 is almost upon us. And America is not in the clear…. Even though Trump is moving the embassy the US is still open to dividing Jerusalem and for the Temple Mount to remain in Arab hands. Everything is coming together now for Armageddon. Who has ever seen anything as strange as this? Who ever heard of such a thing? Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem’s birth pains begin, her children will be born. BIBLE QUOTE (Isaiah 66:8 NLT)
