  5. Objectives With this PowerPoint presentation, students should be able to answer all quiz questions that concern the information about the Solar System in the PowerPoint presentation with 80% accuracy.

  6. Pay Attention! • It is important to pay attention and follow alongthroughout the PowerPoint presentation • There will be a fun quiz at the end of the presentation • You will receive a shining star for every right answer!

  7. The Solar System • There are 8 planets that all revolve around the center of the Solar System, the Sun • The following pictures show the order of the Solar System:

  8. The Brilliant Sun • The center of the Solar System • A medium-sized star • All 8 planets revolve around the sun

  9. The Brilliant Sun • Glows like fire due to a nuclear reaction • Contains 98% of all the mass, or rocks, dust, and gas in the Solar System

  10. Mercury • If you weighed 70 pounds on Earth, you would only weigh 27 poundson Mercury because it’s smaller and has less gravity • Extremely hot by day and freezing by night

  11. Mercury • Has craters and basins • The surface is wrinkled because as the core cooled, it contracted and shrunk

  12. Venus • Since the sun’s heat is trapped in the surface of Venus, it has the hottest average temperature • With volcanoes, Venus quakes, mountains and valleys, it’s very similarto Earth
