Assignments • Notes – You will be writing a summary everyday on what we have read. • Predictions – You will be making predications, for example, about what will happen next, why something happened, etc. • Word Searches – You will be finding words about the reading to review characters, events, etc. • Quizzes– After several chapters being read, you will be taking a short quiz.

  4. What does that mean? • Summarizing is telling the main ideas of what has been read briefly and in your own words. You leave out details. It does or can include quotes, important details, etc. • Predicting is using what you know to make a decision about what you believe might happen next or in the future.

  7. Across-the-curriculum Language Arts & Math • You will need the heights of the giants, The BFG, and Sophie. • You will also need heights of the several objects: i.e. the table, etc.

  8. Project 1: Notes • You will take notes every day after you have finished the assigned reading. • Notes that you take do not have to be complete sentences. • The notes should be important events, character descriptions, etc. (Not details!) • It is important to take the notes as soon as you have finished the reading while it is fresh on your mind.

  9. Project 2 Crazy Words • There are many unusual words that the BFG uses that are similar to real words. • Make a dictionary of the language of the BFG by including the following: • The unusual word • A definition (give your meaning) • The synonym for the BFG’s word

  12. Project 3 A Skit • You will be divided into groups of 4 to 5 people. • You will be given a skit of a scene from The BFG. • You will be given time to practice reading and acting out the skit. • You will present your skit.

  13. Project 4 Writing Assignment Before you write, brainstorm on your paper about The BFG and what type of person/character he is. What would the BFG think about Lake City and our school? Write at least one paragraph about what he would think, what he would say (quotes), and what he would do (how would he react).

  14. Project 5 Characterization Chart • A chart using a radial diagram • Several descriptions of a character • Descriptions: physical, thoughts, speech, actions, direct comments, • From the character, other characters, or the author/narrator/etc.
