What is a Wiki? • A wiki is a page or collection of Web pages designed to enable anyone who accesses it to contribute or modify content. • Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community. • In our case all of the ESL teachers are wiki owners and can add/edit pages to the site.

  3. According to Wikipedia…..(the most well known Wiki in the world!) "Wiki" is a Hawaiian word for "fast". “Wiki” = fast access to information.

  4. A brief history of Wikis • First wiki: 1994 – WikiWikiWeb • Developer: Ward Cunningham • He wanted people to be able to pool their resources online; collaborate

  5. Why choose a Wiki? • FREE! • Easy • Runs on older computers • Requires no special software to run • Shared ownership and easy access
