Hg-Free Button Cell Batteries Some History . . . • June 2006 – Maine enacts mandate banning sale of Hg-added BCs by July 2011 • Followed NEMA press release • Connecticut and Rhode Island follow • Louisiana ban starts July 2012 if Hg > 10mg • April 2009 – Maine amends law to postpone phase-out 3.5 years for all AgOx BCs except SR357, SR364, SR371, SR377 or SR395 • i.e., 357/SR44W, 364/SR621SW, 371/SR920SW, 377/SR626SW, • and 395/SR927SW • Other states do not reciprocate NEMA TWG 2011 BUSINESS CONFIDENTIAL

Hg Button Cell Batteries Contd Recent Developments . . . • Maine amends law again • Extends phase-out date to December 31, 2011 for all chemistries • Retains Jan 1, 2015 date for Ag Ox BCs other than the four designated types • Concerned about supply disruptions in Japan? • Connecticut amends law • Extends phase-out to Jan 1, 2012 for all AgOx BCs • Extends to Jan 1, 2015 for “Hg-silver oxide battery that is used exclusively in a medical device to automatically deliver insulin to a person” • Rhode Island proposes same change as CT • Reportedly also considering exemption for medical device battery NEMA TWG 2011 B USINESS CONFIDENTIAL
