The Congenital Heart Institute of Florida The Congenital Heart Institute of Florida (CHIF) specializes in the care of Pediatric and Adult patients with congenital Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular disease. The Congenital Heart Institute of Florida (CHIF) is the largest congenital and pediatric practice in Florida and provides cardiovascular and thoracic surgery and cardiac transplantation. In 2002, CHIF performed 815 pediatric and congenital cardiothoracic surgical operations including 407 open heart procedures, with an overall mortality of 3.1%. In 2003, CHIF performed 842 pediatric and congenital cardiothoracic surgical operations including 404 open heart procedures, with an overall mortality of 2.7%. In 2004, CHIF performed 762 pediatric and congenital cardiothoracic surgical operations including 340 open heart procedures, with an overall mortality of 2.0%. In 2005, CHIF performed 798 pediatric and congenital cardiothoracic surgical operations including 416 open heart procedures, with an overall mortality of 2.1%.
