  2. What is the preterite? EXAMPLES: • Ben y Cristina se casaron. (Ben and Cristina got married.) • Regresé anoche a la medianoche. (I returned last night at midnight.) • Expressing a past action or state. • The preterit tense (el pretérito) is one of several past tenses in Spanish and it is used to describe actions completed at one point in the past or that lasted a specific amount of time in the past and are now completed.

  3. When is past tense used? The past tense is used when you need to distinguish actions that were done in the past and stuff that happened in the past. Past tense in spanish is used when you want to talk about and describe actions that occurred in the past. h Ex: (in english) I called at 1:00. (in spanish) Llame a la una.

Cómo Se Forma To conjugate regular -ar verbs in the preterite, simply drop the ending (-ar) and add one of the following: • é • aste • ó • amos • asteis • aron To conjugate regular -er and -ir verbs in the preterite, simply drop the ending (-er or -ir) and add one of the following: • í • iste • ió • imos • isteis • ieron
