  2. A cigar box guitar is an innovation of a musician who likes to smoke. If you have an old wooden cigar box and don’t know what to do with it apart from refilling, you can transform it in to a beautiful piece of instrument, a guitar. Some tricks here can help with this DIY cigar guitar.

  3. It’s rare that we dig in to those old trunks and find some hidden treasures that change our lives. Such hidden treasure is a cigar case, which belonged to our great grandfather or even our dads who like to collect. BUT WHAT IS THE POINT OF STORING AN ASSET THAT CANNOT BE EVOLVED IN TO A PIECE OF ART. THEREFORE, A BRILLIANT TRANSFORMATION OF AN ANTIQUE WOODEN CIGAR BOX IS A GUITAR.

  4. Fancy as the idea sounds, especially for the musician in you, try building one at home to directly get hands on experience on the mechanism of this soulful instrument.

  5. Collect the junk: • GET ON THAT STOOL TO CLIMB ON THE LOFT. COLLECT THE DOOR HINGES, A WOODEN BAR, SOME LEFT OVER STRINGS FROM OLD DOORS AND SOME PEN AND PAPER FOR MARKINGS. START WITH ‘GOOGLING’ WHAT YOU WANT TO GET THE SPECS CORRECT. EXAMINE THE CIGAR BOX BEFORE DISMANTLING OR CUTTING THROUGH IT, TO AVOID WASTAGE.

  6. Gather your tools: • IF YOU KNOW A CARPENTER FRIEND, NOW IS THE TIME TO SOCIALIZE. GET THE TOOLS LIKE WOOD CUTTER, DRILL MACHINE AND A POLISH TO MAKE A SQUEAKY SHINY GUITAR. CLEAN THE STRINGS, IF YOU CAN AFFORD A PAIR OF NEW ONE, NOTHING LIKE IT, IT WILL HELP YOU TUNE WELL.

  7. Make the Cigar Box Guitar : • FOR THIS YOU WILL FIRST NEED TO CARVE OUT A LONG PIECE OF HARDWOOD WHICH CAN BECOME NECK AND HEAD OF THE CIGAR. NOW, HOLDING THE CIGAR BOX VERTICALLY WHILE IT IS CLOSED, DRILL A HOLE ON BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE BOX SO THAT NECK PIECE CAN PASS THROUGH IT BUT FIT TIGHTLY. ONCE THAT IS DONE JUST PASS OPEN THE BOX AND FIT IN THE NECK PIECE AND CLOSE IT TIGHTLY.

  8. Install other fittings: • Now you need to fix a door hinge on the tail of the cigar such that it can hold the strings and fit tuners on the head piece. Also, just where the neck meets the head, install a piece of wood through which the strings can go into the tuners. You will also need to install a similar piece on the body of the cigar box so that the right tension is created and strings don’t touch the wooden piece.
