Support Events for Teachers • 146 subject support events for new Higher courses will be held November 2013 – March 2014 • Events to support new Advanced Higher courses will be held in November 2014 - March 2015. Dates will be published in April 2014 • Webinar sessions throughout 2013/14 on key operational topics, open to all • www.sqa.org.uk/cfeevents

  3. Verification Events Note: Visiting Verification dates will be arranged between SQA Coordinator and Subject Specialist

  4. Evidence – Generation of Sample • Assessment evidence and candidate evidence for 12 candidates – across multiple levels • Sampling regime and submission of evidence detailed in Guide for SQA Co-ordinators • For portable materials there will be a national uplift of materials from, and return to, centres • For non portable materials, subject specialists will arrange a specific date to visit the centre during the specified period

  5. Key Messages • Key Messages will be published after each round of verification • Annual Internal Assessment Report will be published at the end of the academic year • Above information will facilitate early and on going support to all centres throughout the academic year

  6. Prior Verification • Free service offered to centres who: • devise their own assessments • significantly change SQA’s assessments • Provides additional confidence to teachers that a proposed assessment is fit for purpose www.sqa.org.uk/priorverification

  7. Recognising Positive Achievement • Applicable to National 5 only • Recognising positive achievement is based on hierarchical structures. There are no Compensatory Awards • Opportunities for candidates who have achieved Units at National 5, but failed the Course Assessment, to achieve the Course at National 4 • Must have entered and resulted “pass” for the N4 Added Value Unit (English, Gaidhlig and Maths also require Literacy and Numeracy Units) • Possible pre and post August models • A guide on these arrangements is now available • www.sqa.org.uk/cfedelivery

  8. Exceptional CircumstancesConsideration Service • This service will assist candidates who could not sit an exam or who sat an exam but their performance suffered because of exceptional circumstances • The service will operate before the exam results are sent out • If a school or college believes this is the case, it must inform SQA within 10 working days of the exam • The school or college must submit alternative evidence in support of the candidate • A wide range of evidence will be considered

Post – results Service • This service will run after candidates have received their certificates • If a school or college is concerned by a candidate’s result, they can request • clerical check and/or a marking review of the exam paper • Schools and colleges will be charged a fee for using the Post-results Service where there is no change to the original grade following the clerical check or marking review • www.sqa.org.uk/resultsservices

National Qualification Support Teams • We are now recruiting members to join National Qualification Support Teams (NQSTs). • NQSTs are stakeholder consultation groups that will provide feedback to SQA on internal and external assessment for National Qualifications including the new Courses developed to meet the needs of Curriculum for Excellence. • www.sqa.org.uk/nqst
