  4. Definitions Competitive food: all food and beverages sold to students on the school campus during the school day, other than reimbursable meals. School campus: all areas of the property under the jurisdiction of the school that are accessible to students during the school day. School day: the period from midnight before, to 30 minutes after the end of the official school day

  6. a FUNDRAISERS School Day Only No Limit on Products that Meet Exemptions set by State Agencies

  7. Fundraiser Exemptions • The HHFKA allows each State Agency the discretion to exempt infrequent school-sponsored fundraisers. • The North Dakota SA has proposed that 3 school-sponsored fundraisers will be allowed at each school • This exception includes fundraisers on school property, during the school day and items sold to students. • The exempt fundraisers will be prohibited during the school meal service.

  8. a GENERAL STANDARDS FOR COMPETITIVE FOODS Whole Grain Rich Fruit, Vegetable, Protein or Dairy Contains 10% DV of certain nutrients (until July 1, 2016) Combination Food (at least ¼ c. fruit or vegetable) MEETS ALL NUTRIENT STANDARDS

  10. Smart Snack Entrees • Calories < 350 % Daily Value • Total Fat < 35% of calories • Sat Fat < 10 % of calories • Trans Fat 0 (< 0.5 g per serving) • Sodium < 480 mg • Sugar < 35% by weight

  11. Smart Snack Sides • Calories < 200 (including accompaniments) % Daily Value • Total Fat < 35% • Sat Fat < 10 % • Trans Fat 0(< 0.5 g per serving) • Sodium < 230 mg (including accompaniments) • Sugar < 35% by weight

  19. Recordkeeping • Records must be maintained by those designated as responsible for any competitive food service in the school. • Athletic director, booster clubs, etc.

  20. NDDPI Monitoring • State agencies will monitor compliance with the standards through a review of local educational agency records as part of the State agency administrative review. • If violations have occurred, corrective action plans would be required to be submitted to the State agency.
