This project aims to empower students to create fashionable and functional textile products tailored to a specific target market. Through hands-on lessons, students will master essential construction techniques, enhance their sewing machine skills, and utilize CAD for product development. Emphasis is placed on teamwork, creativity, and independent learning. Key activities include fabric investigation, prototype development, and final product evaluation. Students will ultimately demonstrate their skills by completing their unique designs and presenting them effectively, preparing them for further study and real-world applications.

Learning Objective - • Create a product suitable for a specified target market • To be able to create a fashionable product • To use a range of textiles construction skills on a product, one – off production • Out of hours learning • Home learning 1 – sewing machine information, • Home learning 2 – fashion designer investigation • Home learning 3 – fabric investigation • Home learning 4 – final short design • Key Questions? • How does this work? What must it do? What are the measurements? How would you do this? What equipment are we using? Why are we using this? What do I know? Who do I know? Where could I go to find out? • Learning Outcomes: • Challenge • To create a fashionable, functional product using a range of construction techniques • Skills - team work, designing, planning, developing, creating, evaluating, presenting. • Aspire • To be able to complete the product with independence through developing strong sewing machine skills • To use CAD to help develop a successful product • To use a range of presentation skills effectively which can transfer to KS4 • How will pupils demonstrate their learning? • Independence on machine • Completing their products • Progress with product • Supporting booklet/ ipadbookletof evidence • SOW • YR9 textiles • PJ/shorts project • The BIG picture… • Students become more resilient & independent on sewing machine and develop practical skills • Understand how to use sewing machine/over-lockers/pattern blocks • LESSON 8 • Evaluation of product • Final assessment and feedback • Ext – make a drawstring/elasticated bag to put product in for marketing. • LESSON 1 • Sewing machine investigation • Complete range of threading exercises, learn to work in a team to complete sewing exercises. • DOUBLE – complete hem sample • EXT – thread bobbin • LESSON 7 • Continued construction • Testing - survey with peers use iPad • LESSON 3 • Development –complete mini prototype • Ideas for product - CAD • Decide - technical decision making • LESSON 2 • Develop –complete casing samples • Cutting skills- cut our prototype • Complete ASSESSMENT 1 • EXT - over locker • Decide - on shape for shorts, fabric prints. • LESSON 5 • Continued construction • EXT – adding over-locked seams • Addition of pockets/drawstring • LESSON 4 • Construction begins • Cutting skills, fabric selection • LESSON 6 • Continued construction
