Overview of CRS Validation Process Courses nominated College Readiness Special Advisors consulted department heads at over 100 Texas postsecondary institutions to nominate entry-level college courses aligned with the CRS Courses submitted 813 instructors submitted a course profile, uploaded a course syllabus, and completed an online comparison of the CRS to course content Total of 930 syllabi submitted (many instructors submitted more than one course)

  5. What Does It Mean to Be “Aligned”? Modal faculty response in a subject area was “Most Necessary” or “More Necessary” in preparing students to succeed in the course This represents a score of 4 or 5 on a five-point scale

Physics Details Low # of course submissions (N=22) for Elementary Physics I Topics with the most standards identified as Inconsistently Aligned and Not Aligned: Rotating Systems 53% of faculty indicated this will be taught as new material in this course even if students have been taught it before Fluids 37% of faculty indicated this element will be taught as new material in this course even if students have been taught it before Oscillations and waves 40% of faculty indicated that this element will be taught in some detail in the class Thermodynamics 41% of faculty indicated that this element will be taught in some detail in the class

Physics Summary Some topics could be de-emphasized to enhance alignment However, it is unlikely that high school students will be harmed by being exposed to these topics Vertical team of physics instructors could be convened to examine these topics more closely to determine if the physics standards should be edited to clarify how the topics should be treated at each level
  12. Conclusion The College Readiness Standards were validated as reflecting expectations for readiness in a cross-section of representative entry-level college courses from all levels of the state’s postsecondary system
