  1. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) (1) • Principale protocollo per lo scambio di posta elettronica su Internet. • Si basa su TCP. • Differenza principale tra SMTP e FTP/TELNET: SMTP non è un protocollo interattivo. – I messaggi vengono accodati e inviati tramite lo spooler dall’agente SMTP.

SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) (2) • Gli utenti (sono molti!) interagiscono con l’applicazione di posta elettronica. • L’applicazione per inviare la posta si interfaccia con MTA (Message Transfer Agent). • MTA su UNIX si chiamaSendmail ed è configurato dal gestore di rete. • SMTP specifica come MTA deve trasmettere la posta elettronica attraverso Internet. • SMTP usa i comandi NVT.
