  2. LACNIC • We are still growing in number of allocated resources • Membership number also growing. Reached 1000 members last month! • Staff increasing every year (21 at the moment)

  4. Policy development • New process (PDP) since last year: • Expedite process • 2 co chairs: • Francisco Arias (Mexico) • Nicolás Antoniello (Uruguay) - elected during LACNIC XII

Policy development • Policy proposals approved (to be ratified by the board) - http://www.lacnic.net/en/politicas/index.html • LAC-2009-01 Global Policy for the allocation of IPv4 Blocks to Regional Internet Registries • LAC-2009-02 IPv6 Allocations to ISPs or LIR with previous IPv4 allocations • LAC-2009-03 ASPLAIN notation for 32-bit ASNs • LAC-2009-05 Allocation of 16-bit only ASNs • LAC-2009-06 Resource Recovery • LAC-2009-07 Modification of the minimum initial IPv4 allocation size for ISPs to a /22

LACNIC XII meeting • Held in Panama City, from May 24th – 29th, 2009 • More than 300 persons from 40 different economies • Tutorials (IPv6, BGP, CSIRTs, IXP) • AMPARO project was presented:Oriented to provide training and promote the creation of Computer Security Incident Response Teams(CSIRTs)

  7. LACNIC CARIBBEAN2 meeting • July 16-17, Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago • 70 attendees • 17 countries of the LAC region • Foster a greater participation of the Caribbean members • Analyze security and policy issues in the region • Participation in the CANTO conference and trade exhibition.

  8. IPv6 Tour 2009 • Countriesalreadyvisited: • HT, TT, AN, DO, PA, PE, BO • Next training sessions: • EC, CO, BZ, NI, PY, BO

FRIDA Program • FRIDA Meeting • 22/23 April 2009, Montevideo • 80 participants, 10 LAC countries • Activities: Training workshops, Promotion of ICT research, Help researchers to get fund for projects • New call for ICT research projects • Opened August 5th, Closes October 5th, 2009 • Information published at: www.programafrida.net/en/

Other activities • Outstanding Achievement Award • LACNIC initiative • Aims at honoring and rewarding individuals who made contributions to the development of the Internet and the IS in the LAC region • First edition, 2009 presented to Mrs. Ida Holz (Head of the Central Computer Service of the University of the Republic, Uruguay)

Public affairs • LAC Government working group • Facilitate comm. w/gov. regarding Internet resources admin. • 1st meeting held in May, Panama. 2nd meeting, August, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. • Currently 15 countries represented • Co-organized 2nd IGF prep. meeting of the region • 11-13 August, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil • 110 participants

  12. +RAICES Project • Objective is the installation of up to seven copies of the F root Server in LAC region. • Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, July 9, 2009. 1st root server in the Caribbean, 6th in the LAC region • ISC, LACNIC and OC-IX
