  1. Welcome! Bienvenidos!

  2. Things to know in Kinder • Know Letter Names and sounds • Write first and last name • Write cvc words and simple sentences • Speak in complete sentences • Concepts about print • Read high frequency words • Know how to rhyme • Classify things by: shape, color and attributes • Count to 100 and recognize 1-30

  3. Teacher Appointments • When you need to see the teacher, please make an appointment. • School starts at 8:00. • Please do not interrupt the class during instruction time. • You do not want your child to lose any time with the teacher.

  4. Absences It is very important for your child to come to school! When your child cannot come please call the absence line (431-1574) and leave a message. You can also send a note with your child the next day.

  5. Backpacks • Our students will not need backpacks • Specialized homework folders will go home on Monday and will need to be returned on Friday • A plastic daily folder will need to be returned daily and cleaned out daily

  6. Materials needed at home • Pencils • Colors • Scissor • Glue (glue stick is better) • Magazines to practice cutting skills

  7. Tardiness • It is very important for your child to be on time to school! • School starts at 8:00! • An unsatisfactory grade (U) will be given to your child if he/she is regularly tardy.

  8. When your child is late: • You and your child must report to the office. • Your child will receive a note from the secretary that allows him/her to go to the classroom. • Each tardy is noted and recorded on your child’s report card.

  9. Be on time at the end of the day to pick up your child. • Have your child share about their school day. • Review: high frequency words nightly, colors, alphabet, sounds, shapes and numbers • Review predecodable books

  10. Behavior There are consequences for improper behavior: • No recess • No fun activities • Parent contact • Principal intervention

  11. High Frequency Words Your child must know how to read High Frequency Words by sight. • Go to the Esqueda Web Site and then to your child’s teacher to practice these words or purchase a CD/DVD from your child’s teacher. • These words will become part of your child’s nightly reading homework.

  12. Parent Volunteers • Let us know if you are available to help.

  13. Esqueda Information • Uniforms: • Your child must wear a uniform everyday unless your child has a waiver on file in the office. • A new waiver needs to be signed every year. • Your child may also wear a cap during recess but it cannot have a logo on it.
