  1. About Me • My name is Bethany Kintz • I hold a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees in English and Spanish. • This is my 3rd year at Bogle • Out of college, I first worked as a Corporate Buyer for Kroger • I then worked on a research team in the field of reading instruction for the University of Oregon, prior to becoming a teacher • My philosophical platform is rooted in critical and higher order thinking skills • My objective is to help the students to become logical thinkers, effective communicators, and to realize their potential

  2. Instructional Platform Attendance Teacher Announcements Checklist Portfolio Summary • The 7th grade Language Arts curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards Initiative, which is based on rigor • The framework for my curriculum is based on mastery of both conceptual and procedural knowledge • It is my goal that by the end the year, students have mastered the ability to think critically, understand abstract concepts, use logic to draw conclusions and analyze literature, and to effectively communicate complex ideas • I have designed the curriculum thematically, so that students are exposed to a variety of texts that can be anchored to essential concepts, themes or ideas. • This way, the students can engage in a meaningful way with the literature, during discussion, and in their writing. • I also emphasize independent reading, because this is the most sustainable method for acquiring new vocabulary and developing literacy

  3. Common Core We have adopted the Common Core Standards The overall objective is to increase literacy across the content areas, so that students are gaining the skills necessary to meet the dynamic demands of college and career readiness Throughout the year, these standards will be the foundation upon which the lessons and activities are built, as students work toward mastery.  The Standards are: (1) Research and evidence based (2) Aligned with college and work expectations (3) Rigorous(4) Internationally benchmarked

  4. Accelerated Reader • Students are required to read for 30 minutes each night • They must log time spent reading on a reading log • They must get their log signed by a parent when finished • Worth 10% of their Language Arts grade • It is critical that we support them in finding a book that they enjoy • Sustainable literacy

  5. My Website • Daily assignments • Accelerated Reader • Wonder Quest and research (2nd quarter) • Common Core • Infinite Campus instructions http://ww2.chandler.k12.az.us//Domain/4481
