Characteristics ~ Lunar Moths starts out as a green fuzzy caterpillar, spiny tubercles, and has yellow strips on each side. ~ The Lunar moth lives in North America ~ Thee males and females are similar in size ~ Male Lunar Moths have a longer wingspan then the female Lunar Moth ~ Lunar Moths very in color from a yellowish green to a pale bluish green.

  3. Habitat/Ecosystem • They live in the forest, areas of North America • They seem to prefer woodlands with trees such as hickory, walnut, and sumacs.

  4. Life cycle • The Lunar moth is a caterpillar that changes its skin five times before it turns as a caterpillar it eats leaves. • It goes into the cocoon • It changes into a adult as it emerges from the cocoon. Now the lunar moth has no moth and does not eat. • The Lunar moth grows about three to four inches long. • Because it doesn’t eat it only lives for about a week. That is just long enough for the male and female to mate and the female to lay eggs.

  5. Other facts * The female when she is ready to mate, releases pheromone from a gland at the tip of there abdomen. This is called calling. This atracts the males from great distances. * Male and female Lunar moths look a lot a like, to tell the them apart look at its antennae.
