CIS Mission Statement The mission of Carolina International School is to nurture students' natural curiosity and joy of learning while they achieve academic excellence though a challenging, interdisciplinary, international curriculum. Our students, parents, teachers, and staff will create a stimulating learning community that develops: critical and compassionate thinkers; confident and open-minded communicators; resourceful and responsible citizens and leaders of our local and global communities.

  3. Morning Work 8:15 - 9:00 a.m. • Unpack & Prepare for the Day • Math Puzzle • Math Problems of the Day • Daily Language Review • Writing Journal • Online practices: Run Moby, Tenmarks, Journey’s, Go Math! • Unfinished Work

Common CoreMath • Number and Operations in Base 10 (Place Value, Comparing & Ordering Numbers, Addition & Subtraction with regrouping, Rounding & Estimation) • Operations with Algebraic Thinking (Multiplication & Division) • Geometry • Fractions • Measurement & Data (area, perimeter, time, graphs, volume, capacity and data collection) * We use Go Math! Online.

  10. Homework • Language Arts: May have Journey’s • Math: Assigned during the week & due the next day • Spelling: May have spelling homework each week • Reading: 20 minutes each night • Study Island: LA & Math weekly assignments • Projects: Advanced notice will be given for at-home projects

  11. Summative Assessments • Language Arts: May have Journeys Test • Spelling Tests • Math: Pre-test and Post-Test for each Unit • Science: Test, presentation, or project at end of each Unit • Social Studies: Test, presentation, or project at end of each Unit • Projects

  12. Benchmark Testing • MAP Testing (Measures of Academic Progress): Three tests (Math, Language Arts & Reading) administered three times per year • BOG3 Reading Test • Pre-EOG Math Test • EOG Tests (Math & Reading) administered in May

Students’ Responsibilities • Come to school on time & prepared each day • Write down homework, upcoming tests, etc. in agenda • Take laptop, agenda, & Take Home folder home every day • Have parents review & sign agenda and check Take Home folder for things to keep & things to return each night • Complete homework and charge laptop EVERY night

  14. Mystery Readers • Please sign-up to be a Mystery Reader! • Who can be a Mystery Reader? Parents, Grandparents, Aunts/Uncles, other family members & family friends. • The students look forward to this each week. • Additional information to come!
