WiFi: Describes the technology of WLAN based on the IEEE 802.11 specifications IEEE 802.11: Specifications for the LANs from the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers LANs: Local Area Network covering a local area Access Points: Device that connects wireless communication devices together to form a wireless network Hotspots: Several access points are covered in an area or region Ping: A utility to determine whether a specific IP address is accessible IP: Numbers that are translated into a domain name ex. www.cnn.com Bandwidth: Amount of data that can be transferred over the network in a fixed amount of time Introduction-Key Terms

  4. We take the devices, and scan Manhattan Island, using the “Ping” and “web” tests. Results are recorded on a data sheet. The web tests were made by both Alex Sherman and Matthew Burnside, both undergraduates at Columbia University So... What exactly do we do???
