  3. Michigan’s Pathway Crosswalks to the Federal Career Clusters What are they? • 16 clusters identified by the Office of Vocational and Adult Education that represent career opportunities for the 21st Century economy (Reference Tab 4 - Table 3 in the BMA, FN, & IT Planning Tools)

  4. Why are the clusters important? • MI Foundation = Cluster knowledge and skill statements • MI Career Major = Pathway knowledge and skill statements • Validated curriculum frameworks • Performance elements • Measurement criteria

  5. Who Participated in the Project? • Representatives from states, schools, education and training, business and industry, associations and others directly impacted by the materials.

  6. Michigan’s Pathway of Business, Management, Marketing, & Technology • Business, Management, and Administration = BMA • Finance = FN • Information Technology = IT • Marketing, Sales, and Service • Hospitality and Tourism

  8. Michigan’s Expectations for BMA, FN, and IT Programs • Programs in CTE BMMT Pathway will be crosswalked (aligned) with the Cluster and Pathway knowledge and skills statements

  9. Michigan’s Expectations for BMA, FN, and IT Students • Students will meet the MI Foundation Cluster knowledge and skill statements • Students will meet the MI Career Major Pathway knowledge and skill statements

Example of Cluster Knowledge and Skill StatementStatement:Comprehend and use reading strategies to learn meaning, technical concepts, vocabulary and follow directions.Performance Element: Use purpose as a context to select reading strategies and read text.-Measurement Criteria: Identify purpose of business correspondence and documents.

  18. Suggested BMA, FN, & IT Courses Framework • Note the CIP code and program designation • Note the timeframe for the programs • See Chart in Tab 6 in the BMA, and FN Planning Tool for suggested course names at the district level

Skill level of IT has increased for business needs • Technology literacy required by 8th grade - NCLB legislation • Students must be prepared and adaptable as technology changes become available. • Keyboarding is encouraged to be taught in the lower grades, prior to Career and Technical Education (CTE).
