What is the Job Placement Program? • The Job Placement Program is a career transition program that provides CF personnel practical help finding suitable and satisfying employment within the civilian community. • It is a partnership between Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), the Department of National Defence and Right Management.

  4. Key Components of JPP • 2-Day Career Transition Workshops: For CF members to participate at any point during their career. Note: Member must register with Right Management. • Individualized One-on-One Career Transition Coaching Note: Member must apply to VAC and meet eligibility criteria. • Job-Finding Assistance: Follows career transition coaching component.

  5. Job Placement Program Eligibility Workshops • All Regular Force members who are still serving or are within two years after their release and some Reservists. One-on-One Career Transition Coaching and Job-Finding Assistance • All Regular Force members or those who have released within a 2 year period at time of application. • All Reservists who have completed 21 continuous months of a 24 month contract, or who has served on a deployment in a SDA/SDO. • CF Veterans who are in receipt of the Canadian Forces Income Support Benefit (CFIS) and can apply for the program (no time limit) • Survivor of a member or Veteran who would have otherwise been eligible

Program Components • Career Transition Workshops.2 full days with 4 half day interactive sessions offered on or near the base/wing covering: • Career Assessment: • Understand more about the world of work and how your career fits within it. • Determine your strengths (motivated skills), behaviours and values. • Examine your interests, needs and motivators. • Identify the ideal work environment and culture for you – ensuring the best ‘fit’. • Résumé Basics: • Construct and deliver a 30 second commercial. • Understand the components of a results-based résumé. • Improve your draft résumé to effectively sell your key strengths.

  8. Program Components • Job Search Strategy and Techniques: Learn: • Effective approaches to your job search. Begin developing a personal marketing plan/job search strategy • How to respond to ads, work with recruiters and build a network of contacts • How to conduct information and referral meetings • Interview and Negotiation Strategies: Learn: • What to wear and how to interview effectively in a civilian setting. • How to identify the types and purposes of different kinds of civilian job interviews. • How to anticipate interview questions and practice your responses. • How to respond to salary questions in the interview process. Begin developing negotiation techniques for successful salary negotiations.

  9. Program Components • Individualized One-on-One Career Transition Coaching. Whether you are currently in negotiations or just beginning your search, or perhaps contemplating retirement or entrepreneurship as an option, our nationwide team of highly qualified civilian career transition coaches will: • Identify your interests and transferable skills through a career assessment • Build an individualized job search strategy • Connect you with the people, processes and resources you need to access “hidden” networks and markets • Assist you with assessing opportunities to determine right ‘fit’ • Coach you on managing the first 90 days of your new job • Help you to explore self-employment or retirement planning Please Note:You need to apply for the Job Placement Partnership program though VAC.

  10. Program Components • Job-Finding Assistance. A trained Job Resource Consultant will provide you with local labour market employment trends and industry information and help you to connect to civilian employers across Canada through: • A National Job Bank: • That is easy-to-use and allows employers to post opportunities on-line. • Automatically matches you to openings at qualified hiring organizations. • National and Regional career fairs • Connections to local employers Please Note: You can enter into this upon completion of career transition coaching.

On-line Resources • Marketplace Resources: Right-from-Home®, easy-to-navigate internet portal gives you anytime, anywhere access to information and resources, including: • Premier research databases of current company data for over 17 million companies World Wide • Seven eLearning modules with just-in-time information and guidance on topics such as résumé writing, self-marketing, interviewing and negotiating techniques • Comprehensive start-up info for entrepreneurs • National Job Bank and Talent Profile Bank

Key Points • JPP is a career transition program providing CF personnel practical help finding suitable and satisfying employment within the civilian community. • This career transition program is portable and flexible. • Helps members make the right decisions–and determine the right ‘fit’. • Helps members develop career transition skills for life.
