  • The curriculum as a fist step- it says nothing about concret contents- it has no immediate impact on the work of teachers or students- it creates the framework for further work

  • Practical problems:- the existing personnel- financing- legal regulations - the consensus building inside the Faculty- How to verify the chnages as improvements ?

  • Improvement:- Why (what is wrong or what can be made better?)- How to achieve the improvement?- How to avoid unnecessary tensions and loss of system energy?- How to avoid repetitions and overlapping?

  • In building its curriculum each Faculty should ensure that it contains:

    • the core legal subjects related to the main disciplines of law,

    • the humanistic subjects providing an appreciation of the law’s social and cultural contexts in place and time,

    • the delivery of the skills (languages, communication, technologies etc.) indispensable for the later academic and professional activities of the students, and

    • interdisciplinary subjects which allow the law graduate to cooperate with other non-legal disciplines.

The profile and mission of the Faculty it contains:

. – serving the local community- having a wider regional mission - compete upon the global scene- act “glocally”

S it contains: tate the intended learning outcomes for each programme of study: - knowledge, - skills,- commitment to values.

  • Take into consideration different levels of education: it contains: - at the undergraduate level the curriculum has to deliver a general education providing a sound foundation of basic legal principles and concepts together with the relevant legal method - give the possibility to upgrade this at the graduate level and through further lifelong learning.

The main aims of the curriculum: it contains: - to enable the student to understand the structure of the legal system - to give the student the ability to use legal methods to solve problems- to promote intellectual development- to enhance the broader intellectual, moral and social development of the personality of students and the commitment to appropriate ethical and moral attitudes and values

The curriculum has to be realistic it contains: - Sense of ownership- Participation of all in the discussion- Addressing real problems - Stimulating better performance of teachers and students- Making things easier and more transparent

  • Phase 1: your first two terms it contains:

  • Criminal Law

  • Constitutional Law

  • Roman Law or Introduction to Law (your college tutor will advise)

  • Legal Research Skills

  • At this point you sit your First Public Examination ('Law Moderations'). There are three papers. You must pass to proceed. The Legal Research Skills course includes its own tests and is not examined as part of Law Moderations. However you must also pass it.

  • At this point students on the Law with Law Studies in Europe programme go for their year abroad, returning to Oxford for phase 3 afterwards. Meanwhile students on the regular Law programme continue straight to phase 3. There are no public examinations for any students at the end of phase 2. All phase 2 courses are examined alongside the phase 3 courses at the end of the final year.

  • At this point you take your Second Public Examination on the basis of which your degree is classified. You are examined on all of the courses you took in phases 2 and 3.
