  1. Designing your own investigation. Chemistry Unit 1 Project

  2. What is the project all about? • Design an experiment to test brands of products for cost effectiveness. • Example: Which brand of battery gives you the most juice for your money?

  3. What should I keep in mind while designing my experiment? • The only independent variables should be the different brands of the same type of product and their prices. • Eg. If you are testing brands of batteries then they should all be the same size…all AA or all AAA, they should be drained the same way using a device that consumes the same amount of power. Don’t put your energizer batteries in a fan and your duracells in a CD player.

  4. How am I going to accurately collect my data and keep it organized? • Design a table for collecting your data before you begin the experiment. If your product’s data can not be collected in an easily measurable way…you might think about picking a different product. • Eg. It might not be a good idea to pick a food or beverage…taste non-measurable and subjective from person to person.

  5. How am I going to present my project to the class? • We are going to use www.prezi.com to create lab report presentations. • You will present your project as a group in front of the class using your “prezi” as a visual aid. • The presentations should have all of the necessary components of a lab report but also pictures…take photos of your group collecting data!

  6. What in the world is a “prezi”? • Check this out: http://prezi.com/rvh-ymamdudy/battery-effectiveness/

  7. How will I be graded? • Rubric • H:\Swindall_Nathaniel\assessments\Project Rubric.xls
