Determining if a Triangles is Acute, Right, or Obtuse

  • If c2 > a2 + b2, the triangle is obtuse.

  • If c2 = a2 + b2, the triangle is right.

  • If c2 < a2 + b2, the triangle is acute.

    • Remember a + b > c, or it is not a triangle.


Converse of the pythagorean theorem
Determine whether each of the following is a triangle. If so, tell whether it is acute, right or obtuse.

  • 7, 8, 9

  • 5, 12, 13

  • 8, 11, 19

  • 8, 15, 22
