  6. How can we work at all levels, and at scale? (1) • Plan actions through levels so that the focus is on getting what s needed to families in a coordinated fashion • Partner widely so that burden of implementation is shared

  7. How can we work at all levels, and at scale? (2) • Recognize that integration does not mean everyone “doing same thing” or “doing everything” • Do what each group does best in coordinated fashion • Build strategic alliances • Harmonize donors and agencies, at global and national level

  8. How do we agree on common goals and work together? • Recognize this is about people, who need to be motivated to take right decisions and actions • Recognize that facilitation and coordination are needed, and that they take time and cost (a little) money

  9. How do we build widespread commitment and ownership? • Engage national & global leaders • Engage wider development community • Foster country focal groups and learning teams who work together • Increase sustainability and commitment towards nutrition by building regional initiatives

  10. What capacities are needed? • Advocacy • Political savviness • Comprehensive world view of nutrition • Program planning and design capacity • Communication • Ability to trust others & let go of our self-interests (a little)

  12. Next steps • Develop set of case studies from past and on-going experiences in countries and from regions • Provide framework and model approaches for catalyzing and building convergence and commitment in countries and regions

Next steps (contd.) • Hold working session within six months to • Develop typology of integration efforts • Define necessary actions & capacities for integration at different levels • Global (donors, technical community) • Regional • National • Sub-national/provincial • Community • Discuss key countries to begin “proof of concept” work

  14. We need to work through some issues… • Self-interest that interferes with creation of common space • Appetite for “show-and-tell” that detracts from collaborative environment • Tendency to blame others • Fear of engaging with others (especially private sector)
