  3. An invitation to the ruins of castle Starý JičínStarojický hill stays solitarily only few kilometres from Nový Jičín in the North Moravia. A long time ago there used to be a solid castle on the top of this hill. The ruins are all that is left from the former castle. Opposite the ruins of the castle palace there is the renovated lookout tower in which is the exposition of historic weapons and documents about the castle and manor Starý Jičín situated.

  5. Making the Starý Jičín coat of armsA heraldic description – the coat of arms is split into two halves, in the left gold field there is a red crowned jumping he-goat facing the middle of the coat of arms, in the right red field stands a gold grain sheaf.

  6. Learning the terms: • Jantarová path – the path connecting the Jadran Sea and Baltic Sea • Strážisko – a place which used to watch for enemies to protect the land • Sv. Václav = the patron of the Czech border – the church in Starý Jičín is dedicated to him • The Lords from Kravaře and the Lords from Žerotín – former owners of the Starý Jičín manor

  7. The legend of the Devil's printsOnce upon a time there was a prince living in the castle who held a banquet. Suddenly a storm came and a rich nobleman arrived to the castle. He started to woo the prince's daughter. While they were dancing her scarf fell on the floor. The girl reached down for it and she saw that her dance partner had a hoof instead of foot. The disclosed devil sat on a horse and quickly rode away of the castle. All of a sudden, he saw a cross. He startled at it and fell off the horse. There remained the prints of his head and hoot in the rock. • Devil's prints – dramatization

  18. A medieval castleSimple early castles were built of clay, sand, wood and wattle. Later they started to be made of stone and mortar.

  19. The castle Starý Jičín, which was the third castle we visited, was as well as the castles Hukvaldy and Štramberk protecting the Moravská brána where the trade and military paths went through.
