Response Paper Three Workshop • Summary: Do we get a clear statement of the essay’s main argument? Is the summary complete and accurate? • Thesis: Do we get a statement establishing the claims about the essay’s assumptions and implication that will be pursued in the rest of the exercise?
Workshop Cont. • Point to one assumption that the writer has identified in the essay. Where is it? Does the writer need to identify the assumption earlier? • What evidence does the writer give for the claim made about the assumption? Is this evidence convincing or not? What is strong or weak about the evidence or explanation offered in analyzing the assumption?
Workshop Cont. • Point to one implication or consequence that the writer has identified in the essay. • What claim is made about that implication (does the writer agree with it, disagree with it, nuance it or make it conditional? • What rationale does the writer give for the claim made about the implication? Is this rationale convincing or not? What is strong or weak about the evidence or explanation offered in analyzing the implication?
