  4. VOWEL SOUNDS • Say WHILE you write • LONG VOWEL SOUNDS: • A, E, I, O, U • Say WHILE you write • SHORTVOWEL SOUNDS: • A, E, I, O, U There are MANY ways to spell long vowel sounds! This is the ONLY way to spell short vowel sounds!

  5. CONSONANT SOUNDS • ALL consonant sounds are at least a little closed. The closure may be inside your mouth and hard to see, as with the sound (g). • Consonants may be voiced or unvoiced, as with the sounds (g) and (k). • There are many ways to spell some consonant sounds and you will learn the rules to help you. • You need to know the POSITION of vowel and consonant sounds in words!
