  2. Description In the earlier classes. You have learnt about the development of technology and the consequent development of various generations of computer. As a result of these developments many types of computers are in use today. These can be divided into various Categories .

  3. Detail Computer are broadly divided in to three groups on the basis of computing techniques used. These are Digital computer Analog computer Hybrid computer

  4. Digital computers A digital computer understands the language of 0s and 1s only each quantity is represented by a combination of binary numbers 0 and 1. a distinctive feature of a digital computer is that it computes by counting and adding operations. All operations are divided into counting and adding . For Example , multiplication can be carried but repeated addition. digital computer can process both numeric and non-numeric data. The application areas of digital computer are very wide, ranging for education. Home use business And scientific data processing where in large volumes of data have to processed.

  5. Analog computers An analog computer computes by measuring changes in a continuous physical quantity such as electric. Such physical quantity are used to represent numbers In the problem. Changes in the physical quantity are measured and then the measured change are converted in to numeric value. Analog computers are mostly used in engineering and scientific calculation .

  6. Hybrid computer Hybrid computer use both digital and analog components ,for instance they use digital memory for the storage of intermediate result and devices for computational purpose.
