  2. PRODUCERS • Producers are organisms that make their own food. • They are called autotrophs. • Green plants make their own food through the process of photosynthesis. • Chlorophyll is the green pigment that captures the suns energy and assists in the conversion of energy.

  3. CONSUMERS • Consumers cannot make their own food and must eat plants or other animals. • These organisms are called heterotrophs. • Consumers may be herbivores (plant eaters); carnivores (meat eaters- eat animals); or omnivores (eat plants and animals).

  4. DECOMPOSERS • Decomposers break down dead matter. • Examples of decomposers are fungi, worms, and bacteria.
